States of Matter
Kinetic molecular theory states that the speed/energy, energy as in its power, at which the molecules move determines the stage it exist in. There are four stages of matter. These four stages in matter are solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. These four stages/states are everywhere. Let's talk about the stages first solid. Solid is matter that retains its shape and density when not confined,the atoms move a little but never get out of place. In the solid state it has both a definite volume and shape. Solids can be made by freezing liquid. Example: This is a piece of ice, the molecules have low energy so the atoms vibrate and don't get out of place and stay a solid.
Another stage is liquid. Liquid is a matter in which a substances has little tendency, has flow. The atoms move faster in a liquid state than the solid state. A liquid has definite volume but not a definite shape. Liquid can be made by melting solids or by gas going through condensation. Example: This is water its in a liquid state, that means the molecules in the water have medium energy and flow around each other. This liquid is on a thermal stand, a heater.
| The next stage to talk about is gas. Gas is a matter were which the atoms can move freely and have low density and viscosity. In the gas state it doesn't have a definite shape nor volume. A gas can be made by boiling liquid or solid going through sublimation. Example: This is oxygen gas. Usually you can't see a gas. The molecules have high energy, they bounce of the walls.
Last but not least is plasma.Plasma is a collection of charged particles that respond strongly and collectively to electromagnetic fields, taking the form of gas-like clouds or ion beams. Since the particles in plasma are electrically charged (generally by being stripped of electrons), it is frequently described as an "ionized gas." An example of plasma is the sun.
